Devin Haney, who has been recently handed the WBC lightweight title, has his opponent set for next Saturday’s fight on the KSI-Logan Paul undercard in Los Angeles. Haney will take on Alfredo Santiago on the DAZN-streamed event.
Haney (23-0, 15 KO) is without question a rising star in the sport and in the 135-pound division. He won the interim WBC title on Sept. 13 in New York, thrashing Zaur Abdullaev, and was then promoted to full titleholder status with the WBC “promoting” Vasiliy Lomachenko to its new “franchise champion” designation, which is all complete nonsense but means the WBC can charge more “champions” sanctioning fees.
Santiago (12-0, 4 KO) is not a very serious contender at 135, but BoxRec have him ranked No. 32 in the world, and we see worse world title matchups than that all the time. The 24-year-old Dominican is based in Puerto Rico, and does have decent prospect wins over guys like Juan Jose Montes, Arturo Santos, Jayson Velez, and Jonathan Barros.
