Frampton vs McCreary results: Carl Frampton dominates Tyler McCreary, Jamel Herring looks to be next

Carl Frampton returned from nearly a year off with a 10-round shutout win over an overmatched Tyler McCreary tonight, and it looks as though next up will be a chance at a world title in a third weight class for the Belfast star.

Frampton (27-2, 15 KO) scored a pair of knockdowns en route to the dominant victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 100-88. Bad Left Hook scored the fight 99-89 and 100-88 for Frampton on two separate cards.

McCreary (16-1-1, 7 KO) went down from a pair of body shots in the sixth round, and again from a double left hook to the body in the ninth. He got up and did his best both times, and he showed heart in this fight, but was just leagues out of his depth against the former two-division titleholder.

The outcome is no surprise, either. Frampton was a massive favorite, as McCreary had struggled in both of his last two fights, against a much lower level of opposition. This was a massive opportunity for the Ohio fighter, but the odds were always solidly against him.

“He’s pretty tall, but we’d seen that he leaves gaps,” Frampton said of his focused body attack. “My hand wasn’t great leading into the fight, as well, and it’s softer to the body than the head. I feel like I hurt the hand in the second round. It’s probably re-fractured, I think I did it in camp, but there was no way I wasn’t fighting. I had to fight.”

Frampton met post-fight with WBO super featherweight titleholder Jamel Herring, too, and it looks like that fight is in the cards.

“My impression of him before I met him was he’s a nice guy, and he’s lived up to that,” Frampton said of Herring. “I know he’s a champ. I just want to fight for a world title next. I want to be involved in big fights and I would love the opportunity to fight Jamel. But I’m not the champion here, he’s the champino. If it happens in Belfast, happy days. If it happens in New York, I’m up for that.”

“He’s a two-division champ for a reason, and he did what he had to do, especially after a layoff, a hand injury, the setbacks,” Herring said from ringside before the scores were read. “We don’t turn down no smoke. I would love to fight him, either in (Madison Square) Garden, Belfast, wherever the fans want it. Let’s do it.”
