WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada had his sights set on a December 14th unification bout with WBA champion Kal Yafai, only for the date to fall through due to “El Gallo’s” lingering hand issues. Matchroom then planned to host it on their January 30th Super Bowl weekend show in Miami, but Estrada’s hand has once again forced a delay.

The card seems to be in turmoil overall. There’s still no word on whether Daniel Roman’s title defense against Murodjon Akhmadaliev will take place and Tevin Farmer-JoJo Diaz remains in limbo nearly a month after Diaz claimed it was “official.” Only Demetrius Andrade-Luke Keeler seems certain at the moment.

Estrada (40-3, 27 KO) has had issues with his hands before, and all we can do is hope that they don’t cost the 29-year-old too much more of his athletic prime. With how consistently entertaining the super flyweight division is, not getting to see him or Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in action for extended periods of time is a bummer.
