Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Brad Solomon

Round 1: Ortiz lands a hard jab to the body to start the fight. Solomon stays on the outside and looks to move around. Solomon throws a few meaningless jabs that aren’t extended to land. Jab from Solomon makes a little contact this time. Ortiz steps forward and throws two punches that don’t land. Ortiz throws a combination with Solomon in the corner but can’t keep him there. Ortiz throws another jab to the body. Ortiz targets the body with a left hook and makes partial contact. Ortiz 10-9.

Round 2: Solomon flashes a quick jab that doesn’t land. Right hand from Ortiz makes some contact with Solomon back on the ropes momentarily. Now Solomon throws a combination but doesn’t land much. Now Solomon lands a body shot but Ortiz responds with a combination that takes the play away. Jab lands for Ortiz upstairs. Hard right hook lands to the body for Ortiz. Ortiz lands a jab followed by a left hook upstairs this time. Three body punches land clean for Ortiz with Solomon on the ropes. Solomon starts loading up on big shots now as he knows he has to get Ortiz’s respect. Ortiz 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Ortiz tries a jab to the body but falls short. Solomon throws a few punches but finds himself right back towards the ropes as it’s clear he doesn’t really want to stand toe-to-toe with Ortiz. Left hook from Ortiz makes partial contact to the head. Right and left hooks land to the body for Ortiz. Solomon pops a jab upstairs. Now Ortiz lands a right hook to the head, followed by a left hook to the body. Solomon ducks two shots from Ortiz but now is in the corner and takes a clubbing right hand over the top. Another right hook from Ortiz clips Solomon upstairs. Ortiz 10-9.

Round 4: Ortiz comes put stalking Solomon behind his jab. Solomon tries to use some lateral movement but it’s clear he’s fighting more to survive than win. Ortiz walks Solomon to the ropes and throws a hard combination. Solomon eats a stiff jab from Ortiz. Solomon fires back but can’t match Ortiz’s power. Hard left to the body lands clean for Ortiz. Ortiz comes back with a right to the body and then lands a stiff left jab that puts Solomon down. Solomon gets up and tries to get back on his jab. Hard body shot might’ve landed a little low for Ortiz. Both fighters trade hook with Solomon on the ropes. Ortiz 10-8, 40-35.

Round 5: Solomon comes out and partially lands a right hand and then tries to work his jab. Right hook lands to the body for Ortiz, then a left. Right hook lands back down to the body for Ortiz and Solomon doesn’t have it in him to move like he was earlier. Jab lands for Ortiz with Solomon on the ropes, then a straight right that hurts Solomon badly and a follow up attack puts Solomon down again! Ortiz lands a left hook to the body and Solomon is helpless in the corner and takes a knee on his own accord. The referee waves it off. Ortiz KO-5.

Alberto Machado vs Luis Porozo

Round 1: Porozo measures with a jab and ends up tangled with Machado as Macado takes a tumble to the canvas. Machado misses on a jab. Hard left to the body from Machado partially lands. Now Porozo lands a shot upstairs. Double left hand lands for Prozo at close range. Clean counter left scores upstairs for Machado. Machado misses on a left hand and heads a hook from Porozo. Porozo 10-9.

Round 2: Porozo misses on two punches but then lands a shot that might’ve stunned Machado as he holds on. Porozo tries to go on the attack and Machado lands a shot in an exchange. Right hook from Machado clips Porozo upstairs. Both fighters exchange and Machado lands a punch. Body shot from Machado in the corner puts Porozo down. Porozo gets up at the count of 7 and wants to continue. Another hard left body shot puts Porozo right back down! Porozo gets back up again late in the count and tries to time a counter hook. ANOTHER BODY SHOT PUTS POROZO DOWN FOR A THIRD TIME! This time Porozo can’t get up! Machado KO-2.

Bektemir Melikuziev vs Vaughn Alexander

Round 1: Alexander comes out with a quick jab and then gets on the move. Lead left hook from Alexander glances off Melikuziev’s guard. Melikuziev presses forward and falls short on a jab. Alexander slips a couple of punches from Melikuziev, but then eats a few as Melikuziev finds his range. Melikuziev shoots a jab from the hip and lands it clean to the head. Another jab from Melikuziev finds the mark. Two jabs land clean for Melikuziev to end the round. Melikuziev 10-9.

Round 2: Alexander measures a jab but misses on it upstairs. Alexander partially lands a shot to the body. Now Melikuziev misses on a straight left to the body before placing one upstairs. Clean one-two from Melikuziev scores. Now Alexander lands a clean right hand upstairs, his best shot so far. Alexander blocks a hard shot from Melikuziev and shakes his head. Melikuziev throws a few more punches while Alexander shakes his head but while he’s doing that, Melikuziev is racking up points. Clean jab lands for Melikuziev. Melikuziev 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Alexander’s trainer tells him that they’re down two rounds and urges him to start throwing more punches. Melikuziev comes out pressing and Alexander tries to time a big counter shot that just misses Melikuziev but gets his attention nonetheless. Hard left to the body lands for Melikuziev. Another clean jab lands for Melikuziev, who then pivots and lands a straight left to the body. Clean jab and left hand lands for Melikuziev. Two straight lefts land to the body for Melikuziev. Alexander continues to keep his earmuffs on as Melikuziev throws punches at will. Another hard body shot lands for Melikuziev after a clean head shot. Melikuziev is in complete control. Melikuziev 10-9.

Round 4: Melikuziev comes forward and presses Alexander towards the ropes. Straight left lands to the body for Melikuziev. Alexander keeps his hands at home and tries his best to deflect punches from Melikuziev that are coming from all angles. Short uppercut lands pretty well for Melikuziev. Alexander throws a rare right hand and makes partial contact. Left to the body lands for Melikuziev to the body and head and body again. Counter right lands for Alexander this time. Melikuziev 10-9, 40-36.

Round 5: Alexander’s corner is very upfront with him, telling him he’s down four rounds and needs to throw more. Melikuziev tries a check hook that Alexander blocks. Melikuziev lands a jab in between three other punches. Melikuziev touches Alexander a few times and moves off to an angle, then repeats — that’s the entire story of this fight. Alexander lands a right hook but Melikuziev comes back with several more punches as he literally boxes circles around Alexander. Another counter lands for Alexander but it just doesn’t make up for the dozens of other punches that Melikuziev is able to land on him. Melikuziev 10-9.

Round 6: Melikuziev picks up where he left off, just touching Alexander and moving laterally. Alexander lands a counter right hand clean upstairs but he can only come up with singular shots every once in a while. Melikuziev jabs and steps to the opposite side of Alexander, then lands another one. Double left hand lands clean for Melikuziev to the head of Alexander. Melikuziev with another pretty easy round. Melikuziev 10-9, 60-54.

Round 7: Hard left lands to the body for Melikuziev, then another. Melikuziev is looking to sit down on his punches even more now, feeling like he’s worn Alexander down sufficiently. Alexander’s left eye is swollen up pretty good — it might be completely closed. Right hand from Alexander misses. Melikuziev gets back to center ring and lands a clan jab to that blind eye of Alexander. Both fighter’s accidentially clash heads and Melikuziev now has a cut over his left eye to remember Alexander by. Melikuziev gets back to work and touches Alexander with a few more shots before initiating a clinch. Melikuziev 10-9.

Round 8: Melikuziev strafes Alexander with a few shots and the stars align for just a moment as Alexander throws a couple of punches. Now Alexander looks like he might’ve been a little intentionally reckless with his head as he smashes Melikuziev — referee says he’ll take a point if he does it again. Melikuziev touches the body again with a left hand. Straight left lands to the body for Melikuziev yet again. Melikuziev 10-9, 80-72.

Round 9: Right hand from Melikuziev scores upstairs as Alexander covers up. Alexander tries to press with his foot movement but he’s still not throwing punches which has made the pace extremely comfortable for Melikuziev all night. Clean left hand scores for Melikuziev upstairs as he continues to touch Alexander at will. More punches land for Melikuziev at the bell. Melikuziev 10-9.

Round 10: Last round and nobody is more happy than the fans ringside. This has been a one-sided, rather boring fight. Melikuziev has fought extremely well but the whole fight has been rinse and repeat for Melikuziev, which has gotten a little tedious, to be honest. Melikuziev scores witha a few punches and Alexander stays behind his guard. Right hand from Alexander doesn’t land clean. Melikuziev stands in and tries to work on Alexander from a closer distance now. Clubbing right hand from Melikuziev glances off Alexander. Clean left lands for Melikuziev once again. Melikuziev with the shutout, 100-90.

Alexis Rocha vs Roberto Valenzuela

Round 1: Rocha comes out quick, landing a couple of jabs and then a body shot. The taller Valenzuela is moving backwards and finds himself on the ropes where he takes a couple of hard shots from Rocha while covering up. Rocha stalks and unloads to huge shots, missing just barely. Rocha doubles up on a left to head and body. Valenzuela tries a jab while at center ring but can’t hold his ground without taking two shots back from Rocha. Hard straight left lands to the body for Rocha. Valenzuela has taken a lot of clean shots for a first round. Valenzuela gets battered in the corner as Rocha unloads. Valenzuela lands a jab moving backwards to end the round. Rocha 10-9.

Round 2: Rocha throws a sharp jab and then a few more hard shots that has Valenzuela in high reverse gear. Two more hard shots from Rocha strafe Valenzuela. Clean straight left pierces Valenzuela’s guard upstairs. NOW VALENZUELA LANDS A HARD COUNTER UPPERCUT THAT BADLY STUNS ROCHA! Rocha is hurt and Valenzuela knows it! Valenzuela pours it on as he tries to force a stoppage but he’s starting to get a little sloppy. Valenzuela continues to throw and if he doesn’t stop him here he might punch himself out. Valenzuela has his mouthpiece halfway out his mouth as he continues to throw big shots! Valenzuela Rocha has weathered the storm and throws hard shots as Valenzuela is gassed! Valenzuela 10-9, 19-19 but he might be spent.

Round 3: Straight left lands to the body. Now a clean hook lands for Rocha that rocks Valenzuela pretty good. Valenzuela might be a little shaky after that shot from Rocha but he’s covering up pretty well but still taking punches from Rocha. Straight left lands to the body for Rocha again. Rocha lands a right hook to the body. Rocha lands a left hook upstairs as Rocha falls back towards the ropes. Valenzuela doesn’t have much left in the tank after that onslaught in the last round. Rocha walks him down and picks his spots to land punches. Right hook lands upstairs for Rocha again. Rocha 10-9.

Round 4: Rocha comes out and backs Valenzuela to the ropes right away as Valenzuela tries to keep him off with a couple of jabs. Rocha walks through the punches and tries to land some power shots and has some good success. Now Valenzuela times a counter off the ropes that lands clean on Rocha. Left to the body scores for Valenzuela. Valenzuela pushes Rocha to the ropes but eats two hard body shots that badly hurt him. Valenzuela is hunched over from the body shots and Valenzuela loses his mouthpiece again. Referee calls a time and warns Valenzuela that he’s going to take a point the next time he spits out his mouthpiece. Jab lands for Rocha. Hard straight left lands for Rocha and it just looks like a matter of time for Valenzuela — body language is looking bad. Rocha 10-9, 39-37.

Round 5: Rocha tries to counter with a straight left hand but doesn’t land it clean. Rocha presses Valenzuela to the ropes and Valenzuela tries to fend him off with a couple more jabs. Two more clean hooks land to the body for Rocha, followed by a right hook upstairs shortly after. Jab from Valenzuela misses off the ropes. Now Valenzuela goes to the body but takes some in return from Rocha. Valenzuela is hurt to the body and gets clipped along the ropes. Rocha is beating this man’s ass. Rocha 10-9.

Valenzuela can’t continue between rounds and the corner stops it. Good call. Rocha KO-5.

Tonight at 7:30 pm ET on DAZN for the prelims, and 9:00 pm ET on DAZN for the main card, Golden Boy Promotions is back with a card heavy on promising fighters early in their careers from Fantasy Springs in Indio, California.

In the main event, 21-year-old welterweight Vergil Ortiz Jr looks to stay perfect as a pro as he faces 36-year-old veteran Brad Solomon, a once-beaten former prospect who just never quite panned out. Ortiz and Golden Boy are basically on the hunt for someone who can at least kind of test Ortiz right now. They tried Mauricio Herrera and Antonio Orozco earlier this year and both were beaten down.

The main card also features returns for Alberto Machado, the former 130-pound titleholder moving up to 135 tonight against Luis Porozo; Bektemir Melikuziev, the 23-year-old super middleweight from Uzbekistan who is trying to move fast in his pro career, taking on Vaughn Alexander this evening; and Alexis Rocha, the 22-year-old welterweight, who tonight faces Roberto Valenzuela.

On the prelims, we’ll see Luis Feliciano and Erik Bazinyan in action.
