Teofimo Lopez claimed his first world title tonight on ESPN, dropping and stopping Richard Commey midway through the second round of their IBF lightweight title bout at Madison Square Garden.

Lopez (15-0, 12 KO) smashed and floored Commey (29-3, 26 KO) with a right hand, which came as both men were uncorking the same punch. Lopez’ got there first, and the fight was for all intents and purposes over there.

Commey did get up and tried to fight on, but Lopez pressed for the finish with a big assault, pushing Commey to the ropes and unloading until referee David Fields stopped the bout.

The bigger news still is that the 22-year-old Lopez and pound-for-pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko are now looking set for a unification bout in April 2020.

The two met up in the ring shortly after the fight, and following Lopez’ post-fight interview with Bernardo Osuna.

Obviously Loma-Lopez isn’t a done deal JUST yet, at least not super officially as far as we know, but it’s looking good, and it’ll be one of the most highly-anticipated bouts of 2020 if/when it does go down.
