With WBC super welterweight champion Tony Harrison set to defend the title he won from Jermell Charlo in a rematch on Saturday, the two fighters sit down with Brian Campbell to discuss the controversy of their first meeting and their expectations for this weekend. Check out some excerpts below with the full video segment above.
Harrison on having to delay their rematch due to an ankle injury, one that Charlo believes he faked:
“I’m [wasn’t] 100%, ‘cause I know my heart wanted to do it. My heart wanted to tell me ‘go beat him ‘cause you can beat him. He ain’t what they say he is. He’s not even what he says he is to himself.’ So in my heart I’m like ‘go do it.’
“My brother and my dad are like ‘if you’re not 100% nobody is gonna want to hear the excuses if you let that boy beat you.’”
Charlo on his reaction to Harrison delaying their initially planned rematch:
“I was like ‘it’s all BS, man.’ It’s all BS. Come on, man, you know it. I don’t wanna play back and forth with you about what’s honest and what’s not...I think you’re problem is you’re realizing how bad I want it, that they lit a fire up in this dude.”
The two would then quickly get into a back and forth discussion about the June 23rd rematch that didn’t take place before Campbell would ask Charlo why he thinks Harrison faked the ankle injury.
“I really can’t answer that question because he’s the one that has to answer that,” Charlo responded, before directly addressing Harrison.
“I ain’t gonna tell you what I believe, I’ma tell you what I know. I’ma tell you facts. Let me tell you the reality of things. This man of his word, this man of his talent, his skills, this man of him, Tony ‘Super Bad’ Detroit native, all of these things that he represents...all nothing. He goes in and says he can go fake an injury, and all of the sudden a week later, two weeks later, the fight is postponed.
“We’re defining where your heart at,” Charlo said to Harrison.
