It’s no secret that there’s no love lost between James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr., but DeGale has reaffirmed his commitment to knock the smug look off Eubank Jr’s face on February 23.

“Come February 23rd the smile will be wiped off his face. He’s all show. If I’m honest, if his surname was Smith, you wouldn’t know who he was. He’s riding off his dad’s name. There are levels in boxing and I’m on a level above him. Come fight night, it’s going to be a schooling. Eubank Jr is gonna get schooled. I’ve dubbed this a ‘retirement’ fight. When he loses, he’s finished, he’s done. This will be his last fight.”

Eubank continued by mentioning that he’s been frustrated by injuries the past few years, but now that he’s fully fit he’s expecting to put on a fantastic performance in this grudge match.

DeGale is most recently coming off a knockout win over Fidel Monterrosa Munoz which followed a string of tough fights against Badou Jack and Caleb Truax. If DeGale does indeed have more to offer at the top level of the sport, nothing should motivate him more than the chance to bludgeon a guy he dislikes in the face for good money.
