Former titleholders Brandon Rios and Humberto Soto headline a DAZN card, streaming live from Tijuana, Mexico, tonight at 7 pm ET.
Rios (35-4-1, 26 KO) and Soto (68-9-2, 37 KO) are both without question past their peak years, but this also figures to be a good action fight if nothing else, as Rios knows no way to fight other than coming forward and Soto has provided good entertainment against that type of opponent in the past.
It’s a must-win for both Rios, 32, and Soto, 38, as neither man can afford a loss if he’s looking to stay in contention for big fights. Or maybe they both can afford it, because boxing is a weird sport and doesn’t always work logically. But still, it sounds good to say it’s must-win, and obviously a win makes getting that big fight a little easier.
There are no particularly notable matchups on the undercard, but there are some talented fighters in action, including top flyweight prospect Joselito Velazaquez (7-0, 6 KO), who faces Kevin Villanueva (10-1-3, 9 KO) in an eight-round fight. The rest of the card:
- Jose Briegel Quirino (20-2-3, 9 KO) vs Joel Cordova (7-4-2, 1 KO), rematch, bantamweights, 10 rounds
- Seniestra Estrada (15-0, 5 KO) vs Yenifer Leon (9-1, 6 KO), junior flyweights, 10 rounds
- Hector Tanajara (16-0, 5 KO) vs Ivan Delgado (13-1-2, 6 KO), lightweights, 10 rounds
- Omar Alejandro Aguilar (11-0, 10 KO) vs Emiliano Cruz (11-1, 10 KO), junior welterweights, 8 rounds
- Sulem Urbina (8-0, 1 KO) vs Judith Rodriguez (8-13, 5 KO), flyweights, 6 rounds
- Diego Pacheco (1-0, 1 KO) vs Alberto Aguilar (1-0, 1 KO), middleweights, 4 rounds
