The World Boxing Super Series’ second tournament in the cruiserweight division rolls on as organizers have just scheduled the semifinal round between #1 seed Mairis Briedis (25-1, 18 KOs) and #3 seed Krzysztof Glowacki (31-1, 19 KOs), set for June 15 in Riga, Latvia.
Briedis is coming off a win over Noel Mikaelian in the quarterfinal round last November, while Glowacki scored a unanimous decision win over Maksim Vlasov last November as well. The only downside here is that June is several months down the line, and it wouldn’t seem that this tournament needs to drag out for that long.
That said, Briedis is still excited for the chance at redemption after dropping a majority decision to Oleksandr Usyk in last year’s semifinal round.
“I can’t wait for the opportunity to get to the final,” said Briedis. “We are going to have another boxing celebration in Latvia because that will be watched by the whole world. It will give me a second chance in front of my people to achieve what I missed the first season.”
The tournament’s other semifinal round between Yunier Dorticos and Andrew Tabiti has not been scheduled at this time.
