Tonight at 10 pm ET on Showtime, it’s a tripleheader of action from Carson, California, headlined by Gervonta Davis making a 130-pound title defense against Hugo Ruiz.
Davis (20-0, 19 KO) was originally scheduled to face Abner Mares tonight, but Mares had to pull out of the fight with an injury. So Ruiz (39-4, 33 KO), a former titleholder at 122 pounds, has stepped in on short notice, just a few weeks after his last fight, a 10-round decision win over Alberto Guevara on the Pacquiao-Broner undercard.
Ruiz does have power, but that was mostly shown as a super bantamweight. He’s two divisions over that tonight, and Davis is the clear favorite here.
In the co-feature, 140-pound rising contender Mario Barrios (22-0, 14 KO) is back in action, taking on Richard Zamora (19-2, 12 KO) in a fight scheduled for 10 rounds. The opener is a lightweight fight, also set for 10 rounds, between vetearns Sharif Bogere (32-1, 20 KO) and Javier Fortuna (33-2-1, 23 KO).
