It’s a weekend with Sunday fights coming your way from New York, as Irish featherweight prospect Michael Conlan returns tomorrow to face Mexico’s Ruben Garcia Hernandez in the main event from Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.
The fights will stream tomorrow on ESPN+, as will today’s weigh-in, starting at 2 pm ET.
Conlan (10-0, 6 KO) will look to stay unbeaten, as the 27-year-old aims to continue his climb up the 126-pound ranks. Hernandez (24-3-2, 10 KO) is something of a sideways step from Conlan’s December win over Jason Cunningham. The 25-year-old fighter is probably best known for a 2017 loss to Nonito Donaire, where he did go the 10-round distance, and he’s also been beaten by Randy Caballero and Rafael Rivera.
The co-feature will be a 10-round welterweight fight between veterans Luis Collazo (38-7, 20 KO) and Samuel Vargas (30-4-2, 14 KO). Collazo is hoping that a win here might lead him to one more title shot, as he could find himself in line for a crack at WBO titleholder Terence Crawford.
The rest of the card:
- Josue Vargas vs Adriano Ramirez, junior welterweights, 8 rounds
- Vladimir Nikitin vs Juan Tapia, featherweights, 6 rounds
- Joseph Adorno vs Victor Rosas, lightweights, 6 rounds
- Paddy Barnes vs Oscar Mojica, bantamweights, 6 rounds
- John Bauza vs Ricardo Maldonado, junior welterweights, 6 rounds
- Lee Reeves vs Edward Torres, junior welterweights, 4 rounds
