Tonight at 7:30 pm ET, the stream goes live from The Avalon in Hollywood, and Golden Boy presents the first of a new series of Golden Boy DAZN Thursday Night Fights, a title that simply rolls off the tongue.
In the main event, lightweight Mercito Gesta (32-2-2, 17 KO) returns to take on Juan Rodriguez (29-7, 25 KO). Rodriguez hasn’t fought in two years, and hasn’t won a fight since 2016, while Gesta is looking to make it two straight following a Jan. 2018 loss to Jorge Linares. And as we discussed yesterday, with the way the boxing landscape is these days, Gesta may be closer to a third world title fight than you might think, so every fight for him is important. Gesta-Rodriguez is set for 10 rounds.
Armenian welterweight prospect Ferdinand Kerobyan (11-0, 6 KO) will also be in action, facing Philly native and Vegas-based Blair Cobbs (9-0-1, 6 KO) in an eight round bout. And featherweight Manuel “Tino” Avila (23-1, 8 KO) breaks a long absence, returning in another eight rounder to face Jose Santos Gonzalez (23-7, 13 KO).
Here’s the rest of the card:
- James Wilson (7-0, 6 KO) vs Miguel Cubos (13-20, 10 KO), heavyweights, 6 rounds
- David Mijares (6-0, 3 KO) vs Antonio Sanchez (6-5-2, 3 KO), junior welterweights, 6 rounds
- Oscar Acevedo (4-0, 0 KO) vs Daniel Bastien (4-12, 1 KO), middleweights, 4 rounds
- Chris Ousley (9-0, 8 KO) vs Jorge Munguia (13-14, 5 KO), junior middleweights, 4 rounds
