The Maryland State Athletic Commission found what is being called an “undisclosed medical issue” during former super middleweight titleholder Sakio Bika’s pre-fight exam, and the 39-year-old Bika’s scheduled fight for Sunday’s FS1 card has been canceled.
Bika (34-7-3, 22 KO) was scheduled to face Lionell Thompson (20-5, 11 KO) in a 10-round fight to air on the prelim portion of the PBC card, which goes live at 6 pm ET. Bika hasn’t had what you’d call a serious fight in just under four years, since his move up to light heavyweight in a loss against then-titleholder Adonis Stevenson in April 2015.
He has fought twice since then, picking up a pair of wins in Australia, but hasn’t fought since Oct. 2017.
Bika challenged for world titles several times before finally winning one, when he beat Marco Antonio Periban for the vacant WBC 168-pound title in June 2013. He went to a draw with Anthony Dirrell in his first defense, then dropped the belt to Dirrell in their Aug. 2014 rematch.
Replacing Bika-Thompson on the telecast will be an eight-round super featherweight fight between Cobia Breedy (12-0, 4 KO) and Fernando Fuentes (14-7-1, 4 KO). Breedy, 27, is a local fighter originally from Barbados.
