UFC Fight Pass, 9:00 pm ET, Xavier Wilson vs John Arellano, Kendo Castaneda vs Eudy Bernardo. This is another of Roy Jones Jr’s cards on the UFC service. Wilson is a 26-year-old Texan lightweight who will be in his first eight-rounder. Arrellano is also 26, but he turned pro in 2010 and didn’t fight from May 2014 until October of last year, while Wilson turned pro in 2016 and has fought regularly. Castaneda is a 15-0 junior welterweight prospect, taking on Bernardo, a 32-year-old veteran who you may remember from losses to Mario Barrios or Mason Menard. DAZN, 3:00 pm ET, Liam Smith vs Sam Eggington, Anthony Fowler vs Scott Fitzgerald, Joe Hughes vs Robbie Davies Jr. Smith is looking to get a win to come back from a spirited loss last summer against Jaime Munguia, and on paper Eggington shouldn’t be much trouble for him. Fowler-Fitzgerald is a matchup of unbeaten prospects at 154, and Hughes-Davies pits the European and British champions at 140. Also: Philip Bowes will defend the Commonwealth junior welterweight title against Tom Farrell, and David Price returns against Kash Ali, plus more. BLH will have live coverage.
ESPN+, 6:00 pm ET, Gvozdyk-Ngumbu Prelims. There are some notable fighters in action on this undercard, most of all welterweight Kudratillo Abdukakhorov, who is 15-0 (9 KO) and will face Japanese veteran Keita Obara, who pretty much always either gets a KO or gets KO’d. BLH will have live coverage.
DAZN, 7:30 pm ET, Ryan Garcia vs Jose Lopez, Angel Acosta vs Ganigan Lopez. Garcia is a 20-year-old kid who kicks ass at social media and has gathered quite a following as a result. He also has legitimate potential and Golden Boy see him as super marketable, as they should. Acosta will defend his WBO 108-pound title in the co-feature against Ganigan Lopez, a former titleholder himself. There are a lot of prospects in action on the undercard, and the one you probably most want to see is Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez, a 21-year-old super featherweight who recently signed a co-promotional deal with Golden Boy, and is thought to have real star potential. ESPN, 10:00 pm ET, Oleksandr Gvozdyk vs Doudou Ngumbu, Egidijus Kavaliauskas vs Ray Robinson. Gvozdyk is making the first defense of the WBC light heavyweight title he took from Adonis Stevenson, ending a long reign, and...well, he’s facing Doudou Ngumbu, a guy who’s been around a long time but isn’t a legitimate contender in the division by any means. Over the years, Ngumbu has lost to Isaac Chilemba, Igor Mikhalkin (three times), Pawel Glazewski, Nadjib Mohammedi, Andrzej Fonfara, and Umar Salamov. But he’s durable, having only been stopped once. Kavaliauskas is someone you’ll want to see if you haven’t yet; the “Mean Machine” is Terence Crawford’s mandatory and of the three guys Top Rank has in-house right now (himself, Luis Collazo, and Chris van Heerden) as possible/likely challengers for Crawford in the near future, well, he may not be particularly interesting, but he’s the most interesting.
