According to a report at ESPN, a fight between Robert Easter Jr and Rances Barthelemy is being discussed. The two are both former world titleholders, and it would be a meaningful fight for both, one that could position the winner for another title fight.
Easter (21-1, 14 KO) is looking to bounce back after his first pro loss, dropping the IBF lightweight title last July to Mikey Garcia. Garcia pretty well handled Easter, but Garcia is also a pound-for-pound top fighter. The 28-year-old Easter remains a contender.
Barthelemy (27-1, 14 KO) has won titles at 130 and 135, and fought for a vacant belt at 140 two fights ago, losing to Kiryl Relikh in a rematch in March 2018, after beating Relikh in May 2017. In his last outing on Dec. 22, the 32-year-old Barthelemy beat journeyman Robert Frankel via third round TKO.
There’s no date or venue mentioned, but it’s a pretty good fight to perhaps look forward to in the spring or summer or whenever.
