It’s a fight being hyped, at least, as the biggest fight in women’s boxing history, and today in Atlantic City, Claressa Shields and Christina Hammer both made weight, setting the stage for their full middleweight unification on Saturday night, live on Showtime.
The Showtime broadcast will go live at 9:10 pm ET, and prelim fights will be streamed on Facebook FightNight Live starting at 6 pm ET.
Shields (8-0, 2 KO) and Hammer (24-0, 11 KO) both came in under the 160-pound limit, with Hammer at 159 and Shields at 159.4. Shields will be defending the WBA, IBF, and WBC titles, while Hammer is defending the WBO belt. Hammer is also the WBC’s champion-in-recess, for what it’s worth.
The Showtime undercard will feature a pair of heavyweight fights.
Michigan heavyweights Jermaine Franklin (17-0, 13 KO) and Rydell Booker (25-1, 12 KO) weighed in at 245 and 239, respectively. Sweden’s Otto Wallin (20-0, 13 KO) and Baltimore’s Nick Kisner (21-4-1, 6 KO) came in at 227 and 221.
