Argentina’s Brenda Karen Carabajal took a decision over Russia’s previously unbeaten Elena Gradinar tonight in Atlantic City, claiming the IBF featherweight title with the victory.
Scores were 96-94, 97-93, and 97-93 for Carabajal, who improves to 16-4-1 (9 KO) and becomes a titleholder for the first time. She had previously challenged twice for lightweight titles, and once for an interim featherweight belt.
Gradinar, who didn’t seem to argue or dispute the scores or anything, falls to 9-1 (2 KO). This was her first fight in 13 months, and her first world title fight.
Ja’Rico O’Quinn UD-8 Vicente Alfaro Martinez
Scores were 80-72 across the board for the super flyweight O’Quinn (12-0-1, 8 KO), a 23-year-old prospect from Detroit. He more or less had his way here, as Martinez (9-5, 3 KO) was just no match for his skills. Super flyweight is a terrific division right now and it’s rare for Americans to seriously contend at the lower weights. We’ll see in time if O’Quinn can get there, bu he has some talent.
