This past Saturday’s Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships event was, well, everything you’d expect from a bare knuckle event, featuring busted hands, horrific cuts, over-the-hill or substandard pro boxers making a final grasp for relevance, and the promotion’s president docking half of a guy’s purse for timidity. In the main event, UFC veterans Artem Lobov and Jason Knight dished out four combined knockdowns over the course of 10 minutes before Lobov got his hand raised.
Also, a judge somehow scored Lobov-Knight 48-47 despite Knight losing two 10-8 rounds. Mississippi, y’all.
As expected, Lobov will now fight Paulie Malignaggi on June 22nd. The pair have had a tiff for a while, which budded off of Malignaggi’s beef with Conor McGregor, and got into it during a media day last week. Lobov has legitimate power, but is looking at a five-inch reach disparity alongside the fact that, you know, Malignaggi was once a top pro boxer and “The Russian Hammer” has never laced up the gloves.
It’s all very silly.
