As fight week rolls on, the ever-bashful Claressa Shields (8-0, 2 KOs) talks a bit more about this weekend’s undisputed middleweight title fight against Christina Hammer (24-0, 11 KOs) on Showtime.
Shields says this fight will be a game changer for women’s boxing and help remove the line between men and women’s boxing so that women get equal opportunities and promotion. Shields mentions that strides have already been made in that direction, even faster than she anticipated, pointing out Showtime’s All Access coverage leading up to the fight.
Speaking on the fight itself, Shields say Hammer is a good but not great fighter who has flaws that she’ll expose on fight night. Then, after harshly criticizing Hammer’s level of opposition during her professional stint, Shields makes a bold proclamation.
“Victory will show my fans that I am the greatest woman of all time, and it adds more to the legacy of that, and shows not that I am just saying it to be super cocky.
“To be the greatest you have to do great things.”
Shields and Hammer go head-to-head this Saturday night on Showtime, with the show kicking off at 9pm ET.
