Golden Boy has put together a lightweight grudge match for its next Thursday Night Fights show, pitting Romero Duno against Juan Antonio Rodriguez on May 17th. The fight will air on various regional sports networks, and be streamed live on RingTV.com and Facebook.
The 23-year-old Duno (19-1, 15 KO) has won 10 straight since a decision loss to Mikhail Alexeev, including decisions over Yardley Armenta Cruz and Gilberto Gonzalez. He’s got a bit of skin in this game, as Rodriguez (30-7, 26 KO) came back from nearly two years away to upset Duno’s friend and countryman Mercito Gesta in late March.
The card will also include featherweight Manny Robles III (17-0, 8 KO), son of the veteran trainer who shares his name, against Rigoberto Hermosillo (11-0-1, 8 KO). Robles has faced significantly stiffer opposition than Hermosillo and should be favored despite the similar records. TBA is double-booked against super featherweight Carlos Morales (17-4-3, 6 KO) and super welterweight Travell Mazion (14-0, 12 KO).
