Kell Brook (38-2, 26 KOs) was expected to return to action next month on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight title defense against Andy Ruiz Jr. on June 1st, but Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has informed to Sky Sports that Brook is being pulled from the card as he seeks a ‘mega fight’ instead.

”He wants the Terence Crawford fight; we’ll see if the Amir Khan fight can ever materialise. It’s still a big fight, it’s still a fight people want to see.

“Khan didn’t really take a lot of damage in the Crawford fight, apart from one in the nuts, so we’ll have to see.

“But Kell wants Crawford, he wants Khan, he wants any major fight and I don’t think he can get himself motivated for anything else.”

Brook sort of brushed off the idea of a Khan fight just a couple of weeks ago, immediately following Khan’s quit-job against Terence Crawford, saying that performance killed his interest in facing Khan. But we all knew that wasn’t true. Brook has been chasing a Khan fight for years and there’s no doubt he’d still jump at the opportunity should Khan be willing to play ball with him — which Khan never has.

In Crawford, of course, Brook would have a chance to reclaim a major welterweight world title, but it would obviously be a fight where he’d enter as the underdog. Brook approached Team Crawford immediately after his win over Khan a few weeks back and Crawford’s team seemed amendable to the idea of that fight. And, I mean, why not? Brook just might be the best opponent Top Rank can land for their star fighter, especially considering that all the other top welters are aligned with Premier Boxing Champions.
