Twins Andrew and Jason Moloney, contenders at 115 and 118 pounds, respectively, will be back in the ring on June 15 in Tweed Heads, Australia, featuring in a pair of 10-round bouts with opponents to be named.
Neither of these fights are likely to be against major names or anything of the sort, but as Andrew says on social media, they could set up major fights abroad for each of the brothers, and if they keep having success, they may not be fighting in Australia a whole lot going forward.
Andrew (19-0, 12 KO) is coming off of a March 22 stoppage of Miguel Gonzalez on the road in Chile. That fight was a WBA eliminator, so he’s now in line for a shot at Kal Yafai, who will defend his title on June 1 against mandatory challenger Norbelt Jimenez. Or Yafai could be bumped to “super world” champion for whatever reason, and Moloney could fight for a vacant “world” title. You never know with that squirrelly ol’ WBA.
Jason (18-1, 15 KO) last fought on March 30 at the same venue the June 15 show will be held, beating Cris Paulino. That was a return to action following a split decision loss to IBF titleholder Emmanuel Rodriguez last October in the first round of the World Boxing Super Series. As of the latest rankings updates, Jason is at No. 3 with the WBA, No. 3 with the WBC, No. 6 with the IBF, and No. 8 with the WBO.
