Tyson Fury: I think big fights against Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder can happen

Fury talks confidently about fights that are unlikely to materialize anytime soon.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

In this video interview with Fight Hub TV, Tyson Fury fields a few questions about fighting in Las Vegas for the first time and still believing that the big heavyweight fights can happen despite the politics of the business. Check it out...

Fury on fighting in Las Vegas:

“When I was young, about 14, I made up me mind that I was gonna be heavyweight champion of the world. And I remember all the big fights happening in Vegas. And I saw and said ‘Look, I’m not gonna go to Las Vegas until I fight there’ and I’ve had umpteen chances to go to Las Vegas as a holiday or a gambler or whatever but I never took that opportunity because I made meself that promise...”

On if this showcase fight against Tom Schwarz is designed for him to have an explosive performance:

“Not really. I’m just gonna be meself and Top Rank hired me not because I’m the most devastating puncher in the world or the big knockout artist, they hired the Gypsy King because of me — not because of who they want me to be, because of who I am already.

On Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua, and himself all fighting within several weeks of one another:

“I’m not interested in any other guys. It’s a one-horse race and it’s all about me. And I can only concentrate on myself.”

Of if there’s any worry that fights against Wilder and Joshua may never happen because of their respective network affiliations:

“I don’t think so...I think it can happen, ESPN and Showtime, or ESPN and DAZN. I think the big fights can happen.”

On his plans for the remainder of training camp:

“I’m going back to Manchester this afternoon. I’ve got another week down there, then we head off on Sunday to Las Vegas...acclimatizing, training, sparring, just the usual training camp really.”
