Dominic Breazeale: I don’t see any fundamental skills in Deontay Wilder

Breazeale says he doesn’t think Wilder is good heavyweight champion.

We’re just two days away from Deontay Wilder defending WBC heavyweight title against Dominic Breazeale, airing live on Showtime. And with Breazeale sitting down to talk to reporters during his media day, the heavyweight challenger shot down one reporter who asked him to assess Wilder.

“Your opinion on him being a pretty good heavyweight champion, that’s your opinion alone. I don’t think anyone else agrees with you on that one,” Breazeale said to a reporter who asked a question at a press gathering. “But I don’t see any fundamental skills. I don’t see any successes on his part.

Breazeale would continue by pointing out that Wilder has been a heavyweight champion for four years yet he still hasn’t seen any growth or progression in Wilder’s game. He acknowledges that Wilder carries big power in his right hand, but also says that every heavyweight has knockout power. So with all things being equal, he sees himself as the bigger, stronger, and more skilled fighter between the two.

The challenger also made mention of his last world title opportunity, when get got stopped by Anthony Joshua in 2016.

“I’ve grown a lot in the last few years. The Joshua fight was an eye opener. It was good experience. I learned then that I was standing there a lot more and taking some damage that I didn’t need to take because of the big guy that I am.”

In the end Breazeale would say that he plans on being the one who dishes out the punishment this weekend and that if Wilder manages to land that big right hand along the way, he’ll just have to deal with it as it comes.

Bad Left Hook will have live coverage of Wilder vs Breazeale this Saturday, May 18, at 9:00 pm ET on Showtime
