As expected, newly crowned IBF lightweight champ Richard Commey will make his first title defense against former Ray Beltran on June 28th, headlining a Top Rank on ESPN card at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California. The article also says that there will be “full card streaming” on ESPN+.
The winner of this fight will most likely go on to face the winner of a July 19th eliminator between Teofimo Lopez and Masayuki Nakatani, with a potential four-belt unification against either Vasiliy Lomachenko or Luke Campbell on the horizon.
Though Beltran (36-8-1, 22 KO) is on the downswing at 37 years old, this is still a solid matchup. Commey (28-2, 25 KO) is an entertaining, vicious slugger, and Beltran hasn’t been stopped in over a decade. It should make for good free television.
And the best part? It’s on a Friday with no competition at the moment. No complaints here.
The co-feature pits top prospect Carlos Adames (17-0, 14 KO) against Patrick Day (17-2-1, 6 KO)
