Carl Froch on comeback fight with George Groves: ‘It does a million buys’

Carl Froch is surely taking the piss, as they say, but here’s the footage.

Former super middleweight titleholder Carl Froch hasn’t fought since his 2014 rematch stoppage win over George Groves in front of 80,000 at Wembley Stadium, but the fighter is in Las Vegas and suggested — probably joked — that he’d come back for a third fight with Groves, who is also retired following his 2018 loss to Callum Smith.

“I don’t think he’ll have it, but if he wanted it — mega,” Froch said. “It does a million buys.”

Froch, who retired at 33-2 (24 KO), noted that Groves (28-4, 20 KO) has a bad shoulder and that there’s also the issue of weight. Froch and promoter Eddie Hearn lobbed a bit back and forth about doing it at 175 or a catchweight.

Froch is seen in the video with Devin Haney, who just signed with Matchroom Boxing and held a press conference today.

This is almost certainly just banter from Froch and Hearn, there’s really no story here, but people are talking about it so if you hear about it, there you go. There’s the video footage up top and that’s what it is.
