Those of you wishing to watch the pair of WBA title fights in China this Sunday are in luck, as the sanctioning body will stream the event on its website. The broadcast begins at the surprisingly watchable hour of 7:00 AM Eastern.
In the main event, Can Xu (16-2-2, 2 KO) defends his featherweight title against former super bantamweight champion Shun Kubo (13-1, 9 KO), who last April defeated WBA #1 contender Hiroshige Osawa by split decision. The co-feature sees current light flyweight king Carlos Canizales (21-0-1, 17 KO) face another former champion in Sho Kimura (18-2-2, 11 KO).
Xu vs. Kubo is a solid fight, but for my money, Canizales vs. Kimura is the prime attraction. As Verklemptomaniac points out in the announcement thread, beyond being loads of fun to watch, both men are known in China for stopping local standouts. Last July, Canizales denied Lu Bin’s bid to become a champion in just his second pro fight, ultimately finishing him in the 11th round. Kimura, meanwhile, shocked Zou Shiming in Shanghai back in 2017.
