The June 19th WBO super flyweight title fight between Kazuto Ioka and Aston Palicte in Chiba, Japan will have some additional championship backup. The Ring confirms that WBA “super” light flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi will make his first defense against Thai challenger Tanawat Nakoon on the card.

The fight was originally announced late last month.

Kyoguchi (12-0, 9 KO) won and twice defended the IBF minimumweight title, then stopped Hekkie Budler last November to claim his current belt in just his second appearance at 108 pounds. According to Kyoguchi, he wants to unify with WBC champ Ken Shiro at some point, which would be terrific.

Nakoon (11-0, 5 KO), who fights under the inordinately metal ring name Satanmuanglek CP Freshmart, was a highly decorated Muay Thai competitor at a young age, winning Lumpinee and national titles before making the move to pro boxing in 2017. He’s yet to face strong opposition outside the Art of Eight Limbs, though, and figures to be a considerable underdog against the fast-rising Japanese champion.
