Today at 3 pm ET streaming live on ESPN+, Tyson Fury and Tom Schwarz meet up ahead of Saturday’s heavyweight showdown in Las Vegas, which also airs on ESPN+, with Fury’s LiNeAl heavyweight championship on the line.
Fury (27-0-1, 19 KO) is arguably the top heavyweight in the sport — he tops our rankings — and more than any championship claim, he is defending his status and drawing/negotiation power. If he gets shocked by Schwarz (24-0, 16 KO) on Saturday, then his rematch/trilogy with Deontay Wilder maybe doesn’t go by the wayside — it might, but not necessarily — but it gets damaged severely.
Fury, 30, is basically fighting to prove he’s the top guy in this post-Andy Ruiz Jr world, where some have Ruiz on top and some have Fury on top. Nobody has Wilder at No. 1 (at least among major outlets), because the general consensus is Fury deserved a win over Wilder in December.
Anyway, the other fun bit of today will be just seeing what Fury says. This week alone he’s already compared himself to a dildo, so you never really know. He might be complimentary toward Schwarz, he might shit-talk the German underdog to his face. Fury’s a weird one, you never really can tell.
