Tyson Fury and Tom Schwarz are set for tomorrow’s main event fight on ESPN+, having weighed in earlier this evening in Las Vegas.
Fury (27-0-1, 19 KO) came in at 263 pounds, which is actually higher than he’s been in either of his last two fights, which came after a huge weight drop during his lengthy absence from the ring between 2015 and 2018.
Against Deontay Wilder in December, Fury weighed in at 256½, and against Francesco Pianeta last August, he was 258. Fury has said he’s been in training basically since the Wilder fight, but if you’re really into this sort of thing, there was some definite jiggle and extra padding in his midsection.
Not that it matters, probably — Fury has never been a carved up adonis before, and he wasn’t really expected to be one on Friday. It changes nothing on paper.
Germany’s Schwarz (24-0, 16 KO) weighed in at 235½, which is his lowest weight on the scales since June 2016, a stretch of eight fights. The underdog dined on a Snickers bar during the staredown, looking to capture some of that Andy Ruiz Jr magic.
In the co-feature, Jesse Hart and Sullivan Barrera are also set. Hart, coming up from super middleweight, weighed in at 174 pounds, a pound under the light heavyweight limit, with Barrera checking in at 173½.
Mikaela Mayer, who leads the prelim portion of the show, weighed in at 130¼, with Lizbeth Crespo at 131.
