Fury vs Schwarz: Live round by round results and discussion

Tyson Fury returns in his Las Vegas debut to face Tom Schwarz tonight on ESPN+.

Round By Round

Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz

Round 1: Fury throws a jab and then steps to the side. Fury feints and throws another jab. Fury jabs to the body and then pops a couple more touching jabs to the head and body. Fury takes a left hook from Schwarz in between his punches. Schwarz throws a lead left hook but Fury comes back with two left hands to the body and head. Short uppercut lands for Fury at mid-range. Fury touches Schwarz’s gloves with a couple jabs. Schwarz throws two body shots as Fury skips along the ropes. Fury 10-9.

Round 2: Fury comes out southpaw and pokes with a couple of jabs. Fury touches Schwarz to the body with a jab from the southpaw stance. Schwarz misses on two punches and Fury comes in with an uppercut. Left lands for Fury, who then spins and throws a combination with Schwarz in the corner. Fury mugs to the crowd. Left hand lands for Fury and he’s touching him with both hands as Schwarz is bleeding from the nose. Fury slips several punches from Schwarz along the ropes and now Fury throws a combination while Schwarz has his guard up and Schwarz collapses to the canvas. Schwarz beats the count but Fury is teeing off on him. The referee steps-in to save Schwarz from the assault. Fury TKO-2.

Jesse Hart vs Sullivan Barrera

Round 1: Hart starts with a quick jab, then a few more. Hart jabs as he steps to his left and then skips back to the opposite direction to keep Barrera off balance. Left hook partially lands for Hart. Barrera tries a right hand to the body that grazes Hart. Jab from Hart picks off Barrera at center ring. Barrera throws a clubbing punch that Hart catches on his guard. Three punches come from Hart but only one lands. The fighters get tangled and Hart uppercuts Barrera in the eye, and Barrera goes down looking for a foul. The referee says Barrera turned his head so it’s no foul. Hart 10-9.

Round 2: Hart comes out with another quick jab, then tries to get back on the move. Short uppercut lands inside for Hart, then a clubbing shot as Hart pushed Barrera to the cavas, it’s ruled no knockdown. Barrera is a little hurt but tries to fight off Hart who is trying to take advantage. Both fighters wrestle as Barrera grabs hold. Referee warns Barrera for holding, saying he’s on the verge of taking a point away. Barrera lands a short punch on the inside. Barrera lands a left to the body. Hart comes back and lands a clean uppercut. Barrera lands a straight shot to the body but the fighters continue to clinch, and Barrera continues to hear it from the referee. Hart 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Hart lands a jab to open the round. Another jab lands and both fighters fall into a clinch. Barrera misses on a right hand to the body. Barrera just misses on a straight right hand and Hart has a small cut due to an accidental head clash. Both fighters trade punches and Barrera gets screamed on again by referee Jay Nady about holding. Chopping right hand lands for Hart. Overhand right misses for Hart. Sloppy round. I guess I’ll edge this to Hart. Hart 10-9.

Round 4: Barrera presses forward and misses on a right hand upstairs but lands a right to the body shortly after. Chopping right hand lands for Hart, then another that hurts Barrera badly. Barrera is on wobbly legs! Uppercut lands clean for Hart square on Barrera’s chin. Right hand lead lands for Hart, then another right uppercut to the head. Barrera lands a counter right hand on the inside. Barrera throws three more and seems to have his legs back for the moment. Barrera lands a good shot on the inside. Both fighters trade punches and Barrera thinks he has Hart hurt! Barrera tries to pour it on until the bell rings. I still have to give this round to Hart based on him landing a lot of clean shots for most of the round. Hart 10-9, 40-36.

Round 5: Barrera comes out on the hunt and tries to land a wild right hand that misses. Hart lands a clean right hand on Barrera’s head. Barrera pushes Hart to the ropes and tries to wing another wide shot. Double jab comes from Hart. Barrera comes back and lands a short left on the inside. Right hand lands for Hart again as Barrera steps forward. Right hand lands on the inside for Barrera. Hart lands a counter right, then a jab. Hart 10-9.

Round 6: Barrera jabs to the body. Hart counters and the fighters gall into another clinch. Barrera lands a counter right hand and a left hook upstairs. Barrera throws several body punches with Hart pinned to the ropes. Right hand counter lands for Hart. Another wide right uppercut comes from Hart at long range. Hard right hand hurts Barrera again! Barrera holds on but he’s in the danger zone! Another lead right hand lands for Hart and Barrera falls into Hart’s chest. Barrera took some real punishment in this round. Hart 10-9, 60-54.

Round 7: Barrera steps forward, which is sort of brave considering the punches he’s taken. Hart tries to lead with another right hand but misses on this one. Hart pops a couple of jabs and then steps out of range. Right hand lands to the body for Barrera. Hart tries to jump on Barrera along the ropes but can’t land anything clean. Barrera steps into a short jab from Hart. I think Barrera pushed the pace in this round. Barrera 10-9.

Round 8: A few jabs come from Hart to open the round. Now Hart tries to put in a right hand to follow up a jab but can’t land it clean. Hart throws three left hooks as Barrera holds up his guard. Time out to remove some loose tape on Barrera’s gloves. Barrera misses on a right hand to the body. Barrera walks right into a right hand that puts Barrera down. Barrera says it was a push but the referee isn’t buying it. Barrera tries to mount an attack after the knockdown and misses on a hard right hand. Hart 10-8, 79-72.

Round 9: Hart pops a jab and skips along the ropes to avoid a counter attack. Check hook lands for Hart, who continues to move laterally along the ropes. Double jab falls short for Barrera. Two jabs come from Hart that keep Barrera at range. Now Barrera lands a low blow and the referee calls a timeout to give him a moment to recover. Another check hook lands for Hart as Barrera tries to hunt him down. Double left hook lands for Hart, who then backs out of range again. Hart 10-9.

Round 10: Last round. Barrera comes out stalk as Hart ties to use his legs to try to run out the clock. Barrera lands a right hook that gets Hart’s attention. Another glancing right hand lands for Barrera. Hart is playing keep away for the most part as he feels he’s up big on points. Hart lands a jab and then skips across the ring. Check hook partially lands for Hart as Barrera walks in on him. Hart throws three left hooks in a row and Barrera continues to walk after him. Hart showboats to end the round. I’ll give this to Barrera for at least trying to make it a fight. Barrera 10-9, but the fight goes to Hart, 98-91.

Tonight at 10 pm ET on ESPN+, with prelim action starting at 7 pm ET on ESPN2, Tyson Fury returns to the ring to face unbeaten but unproven Tom Schwarz in the main event from Las Vegas.

Fury, 30, will be defending his claim to the lineal heavyweight championship of the world against the 25-year-old Schwarz, who looks to join Andy Ruiz Jr in pulling off shockers in the heavyweight division in 2019.

The co-feature will be a light heavyweight battle between Jesse Hart, who is coming up from super middleweight, and veteran Sullivan Barrera.

The prelims will feature Mikaela Mayer, heavyweight prospects Guido Vianello and Sonny Conto, and a 130-pound matchup between unbeaten fighters Andy Vences and Albert Bell.
