On Tuesday our staff made their picks for Wednesday morning’s Kazuto Ioka vs Aston Palicte fight in Japan, which we’ll have live coverage for at 8 am ET.
Errol Spence Jr and Shawn Porter look like they have a deal for a fall fight on pay-per-view. The fight was originally going to be a FOX show on Aug. 3, but Spence balked at fighting off-PPV because he’d like as few people to see him as possible. That’s what they call an “editorial slant.” In all reality, in terms of quality, Porter-Spence is a better PPV fight than many if not most. Will it sell? That’s another story.
Terence Crawford, another star at welterweight, won’t fight on PPV until he faces Errol Spence Jr at some point, Bob Arum says. Crawford figures to return this fall on ESPN from Omaha or Lincoln, Nebraska, where he draws great crowds.

- This week’s rankings are up. No huge movements, but some discussion to be had and some shifting at cruiserweight.
- If you missed it this weekend, we’ve got the full video of Sunday’s Ilunga “Junior” Makabu vs Dmitry Kudryashov slugfest from Russia.
- Mauricio Sulaiman is very saddened and offended by Dillian Whyte being mean about the WBC. Poor Mauricio. His poor, upstanding organization.
- Krzysztof Glowacki is going to appeal his controversial and downright weird loss to Mairis Briedis. Most likely the fight’s not going to be overturned or anything, even though Glowacki has some argument for something like that. At best, he might get the WBO to guarantee him a title shot against the Briedis-Yuniel Dorticos winner.
- Shakur Stevenson needs a new opponent for July 13, as Hairon Socarras is out. It’s not like they’re going to find some great opponent by July 13, but then Socarras wasn’t a great opponent in the first place.
- 105-pound titleholder DeeJay Kriel and Samuel Salva went to purse bid, and the fight was won by Manny Pacquiao’s company to be put on in Manila in August. The winning bid was pretty disgustingly low.
- Joseph Parker’s June 29 return is officially set to be against Alex Leapai. It’s not a very good fight, but Parker is looking to be rehabbed in order to move into something more substantial under his new Matchroom deal.
- Craig Richards wants to impress and knock out Andre Sterling in Friday’s British light heavyweight title eliminator. The winner’s reward is a crack at the belt currently held by Joshua Buatsi.
