We have a date, location, and co-feature for Carl Frampton’s Top Rank debut: August 10th, Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, and Jessie Magdaleno, respectively.
All we’re missing now is an opponent.
WBO featherweight champ Oscar Valdez has been vocal about wanting to fight Frampton (25-2, 15 KO) before moving to 130 pounds, while Frampton said he wanted a title shot in “November or December.” Seems like the timelines work out so long as Frampton comes out unscathed in this fight.
Magdaleno (26-1, 18 KO) will be making his second appearance since losing his super bantamweight title to Isaac Dogboe, having beaten Rico Ramos in March. He’s actually slightly above Frampton in the featherweight rankings, so I could see him being a near-future opponent for the Frampton-Valdez winner.
BoxRec lists Jason Sosa (22-3-4, 15 KO) and Eddie Berlanga (11-0, 11 KO) among the undercard; I was under the impression that Sosa was booked against Erick De Leon on the July 19th Teofimo Lopez-Masayoshi Nakatani card.
