Power-punching super lightweight prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr. is set to headline an August 10th DAZN show in Grand Prarie, Texas against former title challenger Antonio Orozco.

Ortiz (13-0, 13 KO), who’s never gone past five rounds as a pro, earned the biggest win of his career last month by becoming the first man to stop Mauricio Herrera. The victory put him in both the WBA and WBO top 10s; the top of the division is a little busy at the moment between the Super Series and the July 27th Maurice Hooker-Jose Ramirez Jr. unification, but Ortiz could easily be three fights or fewer from a title shot.

Lord knows the WBA could just churn out a new belt for him to fight over.

Orozco (28-1, 17 KO), who finally seems to have gotten over his career-long issues with the scale, went to war with Ramirez last September in his first title bid, surviving two knockdowns but ultimately losing a wide decision. He was last seen beating Mexican journeyman Jose Luis Rodriguez in March.

Ortiz looks like the goods, and while you could argue that Herrera was past his best, a victory over Orozco would be pretty indisputable proof that he’s ready to take on the division’s upper echelons, especially if he can do what Ramirez failed to do and finish “Relentless.”

17-0 San Antonio lightweight prospect Hector Tanajara and Joshua Franco (15-1-1, 7 KO) are set to appear as well.
