WBC super welterweight champion Tony Harrison has reportedly withdrawn from his June 23rd rematch with Jermell Charlo, which would have headlined a PBC on FOX card at Mandalay Bay. Mike Coppinger says it’s “unclear” whether Charlo will stay on the card, while Keith Idec claims Jorge Cota has been tabbed as a potential replacement for Harrison, who undergoes ankle surgery on Wednesday.

The show itself, which sports Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Julio Ceja as its co-feature, will go on regardless.

Harrison (28-2, 21 KO) controversially edged Charlo (31-1, 15 KO) in December, winning a unanimous decision that the majority of boxing pundits disagreed with. No matter your thoughts on that outcome, we can all agree that Cota (28-3, 25 KO) is a much less challenging and appealing opponent. “Demonio” was last seen dropping a split decision to Jeison Rosario on the Danny Garcia-Adrian Granados postlims.

Then again. after last weekend, who the hell knows how underdogs are supposed to function anymore.
