This Thursday is July 4, which is Independence Day in the United States, and most people will be celebrating further over the weekend, so we’ve got basically no boxing on TV this week. Furthermore, a planned card in the UK featuring Lawrence Okolie has been scrapped, leaving us with an absurd one-show week.
But don’t worry, everything gets back to the new normal of crazy the following weekend, with at least nine televised cards coming your way from July 11-13.
Saturday, July 6
ESPN+, 10:00 am ET, Zhankosh Turarov vs Mauro Maximiliano Godoy, Nordine Oubaali vs Arthur Villanueva. An MTK Global show from Kazakhstan. MTK are high on Turarov, who is unbeaten and good, but also 28 and still kind of in prospect phase of his pro career, which began a decade ago with various starts and stops, including a recent June 1 return in Cardiff after nearly two years out of the ring. Godoy is an Argentine import, certainly no great fighter, but went to a draw with Samuel Vargas in Canada in 2018, so there’s that. Oubaali-Villanueva is the fight most will be interested in, I guess, with Oubaali’s WBC bantamweight title on the line. There will be plenty more on the show. BLH will have live coverage.
