Quillin and Truax went to a no contest in April after an accidental headbutt

Erislandy Lara’s recently revealed August 31st bout with Ramon Alvarez is official, serving as the main event of a PBC on FOX doubleheader alongside a rematch between Peter Quillin and Caleb Truax.

I’ve seen word elsewhere that Lara (25-3-3, 15 KO) vs. Alvarez (28-7-3, 16 KO) is a title eliminator, which to me is a fancy way of saying the WBA wants Lara to fight Brian Castano again. Which, to be fair, I’m totally cool with; it just wouldn’t be the WBA without unnecessary frivolity like that.

The far more competitive co-feature between Quillin (34-1-1, 23 KO) and Truax (30-4-2, 19 KO) is presumably still an eliminator for a shot at IBF super middleweight champ Caleb Plant, who faces Mike Lee on the June 20th Manny Pacquiao-Keith Thurman undercard. The two first went at it in April for all of two rounds before Quillin inadvertently split Truax’s face open with a headbutt. It remains an interesting matchup between the underachieving “Kid Chocolate” and the overachieving “Golden.”
