Andy Ruiz Knocked Out Anthony Joshua - And My Mexican House Painting Crew

So last Saturday, the day of the AJ vs Andy Ruiz fight, also happened to be the day that I had contracted a painting crew to start painting the outside of my house. It had been windy most of May, especially daily after about noon or so, but the weekend was looking pretty good with low winds and temperatures only peaking at about 90º F (hey it's Tucson, it could be a lot worse). Saturday was prep day - powerwash the house and garage door, do stucco repairs, remove light fixtures, tape up the windows etc. All the prep work went off without a hitch and everything was ready for the painting to commence early Sunday morning.

Enter Andy Ruiz.

Like all you boxing addicts I watched the fight, hoping that Ruiz would throw a spanner into the $100 million dollar Machiavellian marination plans of Eddie Hearn & Co. but certainly not expecting it to actually happen. Well as someone once said, "IT HAPPENED!!!" And I loved it, it was awesome! Until Sunday morning rolled around.

At 7am I was up and waiting for my 3 man Mexican painting crew to show up and I got a text from the jefé whom I'd contracted for the job, a good guy and talented painter who'd worked for me before. He said he was waiting on his crew and then he'd be right over. Well he waited, and I waited, and a few hours later he called me and said he couldn't figure out what happened but his guys didn't show. I knew right away what happened - Andy Ruiz happened.

I filled him in on my theory, he didn't know about the fight and he really didn't think that's what happened to his guys but sure enough it turned out I was right. They had gone out to watch the fight at somebody's house, Ruiz shocked the world by KOing Joshua and they celebrated by getting royally hammered. I just hope it was a quality tequila they got themselves drunk on and not Canelo's Tecaté piss water. The weather was PERFECT but the Sunday painting wasn't going to happen, bloody fucking hell.

These guys all paint for a contractor during the week and my house is a side job, so we're gonna try again this weekend. As I type this they're re-taping all the windows (I had them pull off all the plastic on Tuesday so I wouldn't be in a tomb for a week) and finishing the other prep work that needs doing, and hopefully they'll pull the trigger and commence painting early tomorrow morning. We're into the 100º weather now so the earlier they get started the better, and I'm pretty confident tonight's Judah vs Seldin card isn't going to cause me any trouble.

And despite the fact that I got a spanner in my own works I'm still glad that Andy Ruiz screwed up Eddie Hearn's $100 million dollar marination plans.
