The rematch between Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua is still coming in either November or December of this year, with Joshua having exercised his rematch clause. But an exact date and location is still in the air, with ESPN reporting that more than just the two previously mentioned sites are now in the mix.
It has been reported that Ruiz (33-1, 22 KO) and Joshua (22-1, 21 KO) could meet again at Madison Square Garden in New York or Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. But Eddie Hearn says that others have expressed interest:
“We had a few late approaches (from other sites) that delayed things. Expect to decide this weekend. Still, U.K. and U.S. (are the) favorites.”
Hearn saying that the UK and US are the favorites probably indicates there’s been some significant interest to hold the fight in Mexico, which Ruiz floated before Joshua officially accepted the rematch.
Ruiz scored the Upset of the Year on June 1 when he stopped Joshua in the seventh round at MSG, winning the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles.
