After an anticlimactic no-contest in their first meeting this past May, super flyweights Koki Eto and Jeyvier Cintron are set to run it back on August 2nd in Kissimmee, Florida with some additional stakes. The winner will become the mandatory challenger for newly crowned champion Kazuto Ioka.
The pair first faced off on the undercard of Jamel Herring’s title-winning decision over Masayuki Ito. Eto (24-4, 19 KO) scored a surprising first-round knockout that had Cintron (10-0, 5 KO) doing the chicken dance, but further viewing showed that a headbutt actually did the real damage. The fight was correctly overturned to a No Contest and, well, here we are.
The WBO has Eto and Cintron ranked #2 and #3, respectively, behind #1 Sho Ishida. Ishida has fought nobody of note since an unsuccessful crack at Kal Yafai’s WBA belt, though, so I’m not too put-out by this leapfrogging. Should be a good fight provided only fists are involved this time.
