According to a report from ESPN, the final match in the World Boxing Super Series’ junior welterweight tournament between Regis Prograis and Josh Taylor is expected to be held on October 5th in the United Kingdom, with the venue still to be determined. A source with knowledge of the upcoming schedule made this confirmation, although a formal announcement has yet to be made public.
Prograis (24-0, 20 KOs) earned his spot in the final match for the Muhammad Ali trophy by beating Terry Flanagan last October, and then going on to stop Kiryl Relikh in the semifinals in late April. Meanwhile Taylor (15-0, 12 KOs) stopped Ryan Martin in the opening round of the tournament last November, and then went on to decision Ivan Baranchyk just a couple of months ago.
As far as good, competitive matchups go, this is easily one of the best of the year, and the fight between Prograis and Taylor will be hotly anticipated by boxing fans. As of right now, Prograis is the slight betting favorite, but those odds can certainly shift as the fight draws closer.
We’ll keep you updated on the tournament as more details are released.
