Promoter Bob Arum is pumped to see how the Saturday clash between Sergey Kovalev and Anthony Yarde plays out in Russia.
Makes sense, because Kovalev could well scrap against a Top Rank boxer if he handles the Brit Yarde.
The Las Vegas-based promoter said that yes, he knows that Kovalev promoter Kathy Duva has talked about matching Sergey with the Mexican heartthrob Canelo if Sergey wins his Russian homecoming tussle.
But if that doesn’t pan out, then maybe Kovalev would be battling someone under the TR umbrella.
According to Arum, “If Kovalev wins I think that Kathy Duva has been talking to the Golden Boy people about matching Kovaelv with Canelo. But who knows, if not, we’ll put Kovalev in with either Zurdo (Ramirez) or Jesse Hart.”
Then, maybe early next year, the Beterbiev vs Gvozdyk winner, he said. That light heavy clash unfurls Oct. 18 in Philly, for the record.
