It seems like Mexican Independence Day weekend will be extremely busy everywhere but Mexico. Queensberry Promotions, fresh off its split with Billy Joe Saunders, has announced a September 14th card in York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, headlined by undefeated contender Sunny Edwards.

Edwards (12-0, 4 KO), whose older brother Charlie defends his WBC flyweight title at the end of this month on the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Luke Campbell card, will be dropping from 115 pounds to 112 to face Hugo Rosendo Guarneros (16-2-2, 8 KO). Besides having a BoxRec picture that looks like someone just ran over his dog, Guarneros has had an unremarkable career thus far, feasting mostly on inexperienced competition in his native Mexico.

Two BBBofC titles will be on the line earlier in the card. Super bantamweight Brad Foster (11-0-1, 4 KO) makes the second defense of his British title against Lucien Reid (8-0-1, 4 KO) and light heavyweight Doc Spelman (16-2, 8 KO) faces challenger Shakan Pitters (12-0, 4 KO).

In the opening bout, unbeaten light heavyweights Zak Chelli (7-0, 3 KO) and Kody Davies (9-0, 3 KO) duke it out in a “British title eliminator.” Assuming I’m thinking of the correct British title, that puts the winner in line to challenge Joshua Buatsi at some point.
