Sergey Kovalev: Canelo Alvarez is ‘100%’ a better fighter than Andre Ward

Kovalev chats with reporters following his opening press conference with Canelo Alvarez.

Sergey Kovalev met with reporters following his official press conference to announce his November 2nd fight with Canelo Alvarez, and fielded some media questions. Check out what he had to say...

On if he rates Canelo as a better fighter than Andre Ward:

“100%...because maybe Ward was better super middleweight, but not at light heavyweight. But Canelo’s fighting everybody, you know, like everybody, and he has stamina, he has good legs, speed, IQ — he has everything.”

On if he respects Canelo:

“Yes, because his [mentality is like my mentality], he follow for his dreams and took the risk, took the risk to everything. And I know this guy since 2012, but a long time I didn’t see him personally. And today we met again and like I [was glad to see him] and he, the same.”

On if he ever lost confidence after losing to Eleider Alvarez:

“No, because I knew why I lost. I overtrain me, myself, again...I thought that if more, then better. But now I understand that less, then better.”
