News broke a few weeks ago that former British star fighter Nigel Benn would be ending his retirement at age 55 to make one more run between the ropes. Benn has now officially called a press conference which will be held this Thursday, where he’s expected to formally make his announcement, along with the opponent he’ll be facing.

The current rumor mill suggests that Benn (42-5-1, 35 KOs) has come to terms with former WBC titleholder Saiko Bika (34-7-3, 22 KOs) for the return, who’s been out of action for the past two years. At age 40 Bika’s best days are obviously behind him, but he’s still a whopping 15 years younger than Benn, who hasn’t fought professionally in over 20 years.

So a fight of this magnitude obviously requires another one just like it to bolster the card. To that end WBN reports that former champion Ricardo Mayorga (32-12-1, 26 KOs) has been approached about being in the co-featured bout.

The chain-smoking Nicaraguan hasn’t been in a serious fight in about 10 years, but most recently fought this past April against a fighter making his professional debut — and got knocked out in the second round (his third stoppage loss a row).

I can’t wait to hear what else they have in mind for this show. Stay tuned!
