Errol Spence Jr’s split decision win over Shawn Porter gave him the WBC welterweight title in addition to the IBF belt he came into tonight’s fight defending, making Spence (26-0, 21 KO) a unified titleholder at 147 pounds.
It was a hard, punishing, and gritty fight from the opening bell tonight, as Porter (30-3-1, 17 KO) gave Spence everything he could handle over 12 grueling rounds. Pretty much everyone, including the pros, has praised the fight for its action, drama, and for Porter giving Spence definitely the toughest test of his career. Both men come out of this one looking good, really.
If you missed the fight, well, you should find a way to see it in full, because it’s on the shortlist for Fight of the Year, but here are some highlights to tide you over, including Spence’s 11th round knockdown of Porter on a wicked left hand that might well have finished a lesser opponent.
It's raining hands at Staples!
