September 14th is going to be a busy day for the sport, even beyond the Tyson Fury vs. Otto Wallin-led ESPN+ card and the Jaime Munguia-Patrick Allotey DAZN card. The WBO will be hosting a pair of purse bids for its mandated title fights, one for Shakur Stevenson vs. Joet Gonzalez and one for Zolani Tete vs. John Riel Casimero.
The former might not be needed; the respective sides are reportedly finalizing a deal, and though it’s not yet complete, plans are already in place to stage it in Reno on October 26th with Mikaela Mayer and Andy Vences on the undercard. Representative for the latter, however, will probably have to stop by the WBO home office; the two sides were “unable to make a deal,” and now await a bid with a $100,000 minimum and a 75/25 split between Tete (28-3, 21 KO) and Casimero (28-4, 19 KO).
Both are fun, competitive matchups, so hopefully we’ll have some contracts in the next couple weeks.
