As Danny Garcia makes his ring return this weekend in Showtime’s main event, Garcia discusses his upcoming fight with Ivan Redkach and answers some media questions, including one about potentially fighting Terence Crawford. Check out some quotes below...
Garcia on if this fight against Redkach is an opportunity to remind people he’s still a top operator:
“I wouldn’t say it’s an audition but I would say it’s a very important fight for me...for my future. So my future starts on Saturday night for all the big fights. I’ve already been in a lot of big fights in my career, I fought 13 world champions, I’ve been in 10 world title fights. So it’s not new to me, I know Redkach is hungry but I know what it takes to win at this level and I’m ready.”
On Terence Crawford wanting the WBO to order him as a challenger to Crawford’s world title and if he’s interested in facing him:
“I believe I’m ranked #1 WBC, WBA, and WBO so the ball’s in my court. But yeah, for sure. Like I said before, this is a business and anything can be made if it’s done right. There’s not much to say, we fought for free.
“We want the big fights. We want the big fights for sure. I have to worry about Redkach right now, I can’t overlook him, and I have to go in there and dominate him and the sky’s the limit after that. Any fight can be made.”
On Redkach saying he wants to throw down with him in the middle of the ring and if he’s willing to stand and trade with him:
“I’m the bigger, stronger guy so if he does that he’s in trouble. But we’re ready for whatever. We trained, we banged it out in sparring, we boxed in sparring, and as a true champion you have to go in there and make adjustments. It can be an easy night or we might have to dig deep, we’re ready for whatever.”
