Notes: Hurd didn’t exactly light it up on Saturday in a win over Francisco Santana, but he stays in his spot at No. 4 here. I will say I wouldn’t expect him to beat Lara or Castano or even Harrison — two of whom (Lara and Harrison) he’s already beaten — if he fights the way he did this weekend. But I also would expect him to revert back to his previous style in any of those fights, where he’d actually be tested. We’ll see what he does when things get tougher.

Notes: Like Hurd, Garcia wasn’t exactly stellar in a win over Ivan Redkach, but he won handily. It’s expected he gets something bigger next, maybe Manny Pacquiao. For a division with a lot of talent, hype, and star power, welterweight is currently at something of a standstill. Spence will return from injury with a tune-up probably, we might but might not get Crawford-Porter, Pacquiao picks and chooses what he wants and what he wants most seems to be Conor McGregor, Thurman has been half in the game for a long time now, Garcia is trying to find a dance partner, and Ugas isn’t likely to get big fights that aren’t forced by mandatory orders.

Notes: Stephen Fulton Jr has been sitting just outside the top 10 for me for a while now, and I’ve debated putting him in before. Now I’m pulling the trigger after a comfortable decision win in a WBO eliminator over Arnold Khegai. The Fulton we saw against Khegai would be, in my view, a favorite over Brandon Figueroa, another young PBC standout at the weight; a fight between the two was teased last year, but Fulton got an eliminator instead. I jumped Fulton to No. 8, replacing Japanese veteran Yukinori Oguni, who really hasn’t looked that great recently. But Oguni could come back next week depending on what happens in the Roman-Akhmadaliev fight on Thursday. As for Fulton, I really think his skills — in particular a fantastic jab — give him the base skills to be a problem for anyone at this weight right now. Others have some more proof on their records, but on the eye test the Philly fighter looks like trouble.
