Andrade vs Keeler results: Demetrius Andrade dominates Luke Keeler, calls out Billy Joe Saunders

Demetrius Andrade predictably dominated a woefully overmatched Luke Keeler tonight in Miami, but the performance isn’t drawing many rave reviews.

Andrade (29-0, 18 KO) dropped Keeler (17-3-1, 5 KO) in about five seconds to open the fight, and put the Irishman down very hard in the second round, but Keeler, credit to his toughness, got up and kept doing his best. But he was sorely outclassed here from start to finish, and Andrade spent a lot of time loading up shots looking for a highlight reel knockout.

That never quite came, but he did batter Keeler at the end of the ninth round until referee Telis Assimenios stepped in for what was really a mercy stoppage as much as anything.

Andrade’s performance here is going to be criticized even just by going as long as he did; he did get the stoppage, but even Andrade fans on social media weren’t loving this one, as Keeler lasted a long longer than it seemed the talent disparity should have allowed.

But Andrade won, and that’s what matters most to him.

“I thought it was good,” Andrade said of his performance, before making the bold prediction that, “Luke Keeler is a warrior and a future champion in the future one day.”

Asked about what’s next, Andrade sounds pretty willing to give up on landing a big fight at 160 pounds with Canelo Alvarez, Gennadiy Golovkin, or Jermall Charlo.

“I’m willing to go up to 168 to fight Billy Joe Saunders in my next fight,” he said. “I’ll whoop his ass, too.”

Saunders is also promoted by Matchroom and fights on DAZN, and the two were set to meet for the WBO middleweight title held by Saunders in Oct. 2018 before Saunders failed a pre-fight drug test, which left the belt vacant, and Andrade beat Walter Kautondokwa to claim it. Andrade-Saunders doesn’t sound like a thriller style-wise, but at the very least Saunders is seen as an actual contender, and he does have the WBO super middleweight belt now.

Numbers-wise, this fight was about as lopsided as it gets. CompuBox saw Andrade landing 146 of 385 (38%) total punches, and a robust 129 of 260 (50%) of his power shots. Keeler, on the other hand, landed a paltry 34 of 298 (11%) total punches, and 25 of 193 (13%) power shots.
